Hanover Ag BRC Invitational

Hanover Ag’s Bull Rider’s Canada Invitational, presented by Steinbach Feeds

2021 brought a successful weekend for all involved! Crossfire Bullriding  sums up the event:

“It was great to be back in Grunthal! The Hanover Ag Bull Riders Canada Inc. Invitational presented by Steinbach Feeds took place this past week and what an event it was. The 2019 BRC Event of the Year lived up to its reputation in 2021!
The unique 2-day format is the only such BRC event in Manitoba seeing the riders compete not only for the day title but also the event title as well. The 2-day format gives extra opportunities to win but it also adds that much more strain and a larger challenge. In a back-to-back event like this, cowboys could be riding 4, 6, or even 8 bulls in a 24 hour period. During these 2 days, the rider’s mettle, grit, and determination are put to the test and only the toughest cowboys through and through would step into this arena, not just once, but several times, in Grunthal, MB.
The long round of Day 1 kicked off with amazing weather and even better rides. We saw rides from the veterans Cody Coverchuk, Aaron

Roy, and Tim Lipsett as well as rides from the young guys, Dixon Tattrie, Blake Smith, and Riley Gagnon. The top spot of the long round belonged to Gagnon who rode RKO’s Pumped up Kicks for a score of 84.5.

But it was the veterans who showed up in the short round with Coverchuk, Roy, and Lipsett all riding their second bull, all scoring higher than the 84.5 highest score of the previous round. The top ride of the night belonged to Aaron Roy who conquered LSB’s Mogley for a whopping 90.5 points – the highest score of the night and eventually the entire weekend!
Thanks to an earlier 84 point score on LSB’s Possible Kish, Roy would end up winning Day 1. Though the night had come to a close, the bullriding action was not over.
Day 2 added another challenge as rain clouds that were threatening all morning, finally opened up just before start time. These riders who were already sore from the previous day, faced wet equipment, slick fences and a muddy arena. With all of these challenges though, the riders still showed up to ride! Not only them, but also the many people who showed up to watch in person, holding an umbrella, wearing a rain coat, or just a big hat, proving that you don’t need to ride bulls to be a cowboy!
As the night rolled on and the rain continued, we saw rides from rookie Jaden Ozirney, Dawson Shannon, Cole Hartman, Aaron Roy, and Cody Coverchuk who claimed the highest score of the day – 86.5 on MVB’s Merlin Long Back. At the end of a grueling Day 2 in the mud, Dawson Shannon stood victorious with 163 points on 2 bulls – the only Day 2 rider to cover both.
Of course, with higher risk comes higher reward and this 2-day event was no exception. The prize money to be claimed was $10,000, the highest of any BRC event in Manitoba and the man who took top spot was once again, Aaron Roy. Thanks to his Day 1 total of 174.5, he would receive nearly $6000 in cash and the bronze trophy.
From the challenging weather, to the many tough rides, we got to witness first hand in Grunthal, what it really means to be Cowboy to the Core!
