Pinecone Chainsaw Carvings by Steph Penner
Stephanie Penner, small town farm girl, born and raised on a dairy farm in Grunthal, MB.
I grew up with a love and knack for taking care of animals, which led me into many avenues of farming.
Most of my customers when first meeting me ask, “who’s the artist/chainsaw carver ?”, to which I reply “it’s me”. With slightly shocked and curious faces they ask, “how did you get into this?”. Well, it’s actually really simple, one day I had the “brilliant” idea that I wanted to carve a sculpture. Never having used a chainsaw before I decided to see if I could start my husbands saw and play around with it on a log. After that first day with the saw I carved an owl, and viola it looked great. The next day I tried again on another log and carved up a hawk, and viola it looked great. I proceeded to do this all week and almost a year later here I am still hacking into a log and loving it.
Kornelius the Karver
Howdy Pholks, Cornie Krahn here, better known in the carving world as Kornelius The Karver.
I’m a self taught carver in progress. I started carving in fall of 2019 and enjoy each new challenge.
I’ve had the privilege of carving alongside a few world class carver’s, as a helper in Hope, BC and most recently in Southern Ontario at a carving event. I am currently working on 9’ Polar Bear holding a Basketball and wearing a Winnipeg Seabears Jersey for the owners of the team.
I believe we are all born with gifts and talents that coincide with our God given purpose. Pursuing my purpose has become my lifestyle.
As a design builder by trade I enjoy doing specialty custom drawings and seeing the projects come together.
When I am not carving I also enjoy going for rides on my Harley, baking Sourdough Bread and Pizza. Last but not least spending time with friends, family and being Grandpa CornPop to my 6 grandchildren.

I have been carving about 7 years on and off but as a career for about 3 years. I have been artsy all my life, drawing since I was a kid and airbrushing bikes, vehicles and wall murals in my 20s. I stopped doing art until I started chainsaw carving about 7 years ago. One of the best parts of this “job” is to see the joy on people’s faces when they see my work. I believe God gives us all gifts. It’s up to us to pursue them and use them for His purpose.
